| Project/Program Description: |
We are currently seeking a bright, motivated individual interested in pursuing graduate studies towards a Ph.D. degree in plant science (plant physiology/biochemistry/molecular biology). Our laboratory is actively involved in state of the art research in identifying and manipulating fundamental processes in plants with the ultimate objective of improving crop performance, yield and sustainability. Specifically the research project will focus on the characterization of targeted proteins of plant hormone biosynthesis in developing Pisum sativum L. (pea). Isolated protein (bacterially expressed) will be characterized for structure and function, and antibodies (to the protein of interest) used to study the temporal and spatial biosynthesis of the enzymes during pea development. The proposed work is based on our novel physiological and molecular studies that have shown the important interaction between plant hormones (auxins, gibberellins and ethylene) in pea growth and development. A research assistantship is available for a qualified candidate. Interested candidates with a Bachelor?s/Master?s degree in biochemistry or physiology are asked to apply by sending a cover letter of their career interests, their C.V., and copies of transcripts.
